The world of dyno tuning is full of liars, cheats, and thieves. Let me give you a quick pointer. If you look in the upper right corner of A dyno chart you should see some text. It is the correction factor which is the mathematical formula the dyno software uses to even out the results to a standard set of conditions. The trick is different correction factors will give different results from the same run. A 133hp run with SAE correction factor at maximum curve smoothing of 5 can jump to 136 at STD/smoothing 3 and even 140hp at DIN smoothing 0. So next time you see a shop advertising big numbers, look at their correction factor and data smoothing. SAE stands for Society of Automotive Engineers and it is the current standard having replaced the slightly less accurate STD factor. Check the charts below of some of my past projects.
